United States – Home… I’m from St. Paul, MN, but I could live in New York City. Easy! I remember my first trip there, only 5 years ago; Luis and I were sitting at a café in SoHo and at the large round table next to us, the 5 guests were chatting it up with one another in 5 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES! SIMULTANEOUSLY! That is, each appeared to be speaking in their own, but fully capable of understanding what was being said in the other 4. We counted Spanish, Italian, English, French and Norwegian or Dutch maybe … Come on! So rich in so many cultures, all within blocks of one another. Why doesn´t the US put more emphasis on language learning? Oh, I know the practical answer, the lazy answer; how small of us, how sad for us.
